An ultrasonic polishing machine (such as the Motosonic) uses high-frequency vibration of the polishing tool to rapidly remove EDM recast layer and achieve fine surface finishes on mould cavities — faster and more consistently than manual polishing alone.
Mirror finish on injection moulds requires a systematic polishing sequence: starting with coarser stones (180-400 grit) to remove EDM recast layer, progressing through finer stones (600-1500 grit) and finishing with diamond compounds (3μm, 1μm, 0.25μm) applied on felt bobs.
