An electro-permanent magnetic chuck uses a combination of permanent and electromagnets to clamp ferrous workpieces on machine tools. A brief electrical pulse activates or deactivates the clamp — after which holding force is maintained with zero power, providing safe, energy-efficient workholding.
Magnetic chucks provide uniform clamping force without distorting the workpiece, allow 5-face machining access (no clamps blocking the way), reduce setup time by eliminating mechanical fixtures, and hold parts with zero power consumption once activated.
